1907 The Cradle With Garlands Egg
Maria Feodorovna
Purchase price 9,700
The Imperial jeweled Easter egg “Cradle with Garlands” for the Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna is made in the Louis XVI style. The Egg is enameled in light blue and opalescent oyster, and mounted on a pedestal of white onyx. The garlands of varicolored gold and enamel are embellished with rose-cut diamonds. The now lost surprise was an easel of white enamel with a ruby, pearls and rose-cut diamonds, supporting a miniature portrait of the Imperial children.
In July of 1917 this Egg was kept at the Gatchina Palace. Its journey out of Russia has not been documented. Once abroad, it exchanged several owners in the US.
